LOCAL EXPERIENCES
DURATION: 1 - 2 hours.
Traditional Siwan Pottery (women only):
You will be warmly welcomed by local women at their home. You will meet your instructor, one of the few women who still know how to perform this craft. Passed down through generations, women used to make artifacts of use in their daily lifes like measuring cups, incense burners and little oil lamps. Siwan clay is not glazed or dried in an oven, so you can take your creations with you the same day.
Book if you want to have the true local experience over a cup of tea and home made cookies.
Pottery School of Siwa (mixed genders):
At Siwa’s Pottery School you will learn the more modern method, based on the famous style of Fayoum (Tunis) oasis. Your instructor is a master craftsman from Fayoum, passionate about keeping this art form alive. Demonstration of essential pottery methods including the use of the wheel and step by step guidance as you shape your own creation.
You can choose to join a single hands-on workshop or participate in a series of sessions. As this type of pottery is glazed, depending on your stay in Siwa, you may have the opportunity to take your finished pieces home.
